Alcatel phone locked

Alcatel phone locked

PostPosted by pdmoulsher » Tue Mar 04, 2014 3:01 pm

A work colleagues mother has an Alcatel onetouch 282 cheap nasty handset (large buttons, elderley person) which seems to be locked:

It was purchased from CPW with a PAYG T Mobile sim which as far as I can make out has never been used since initial set up (at least 6 months ago), and now when the phone is switched on the message SIM locked appears.
Tried a different provider sim, same message. Tried a brand new (recently puchased/topped up) T Mobile sim, same message.
Colleague states that CPW advised the phone is locked to T Mobile and sent her to the EE shop, not 100% sure what happenend there ......

Any ideas (other than stamp on it and get a decent handset) welcome

You said it was sim locked & not used for 6 months. Could the sim have been deactivated then the phone locked by the network? Or isn't the phone recognising any sim? Was the sim or phone lost, stolen or barred at any point?

Is the message "SIM card locked! Please contact operator! Reset key?"

Message reads 'SIM Locked,
SOS only!
I have tried different provider sim, same message.
Not lost/stolen/barred, just not used.
I've had the battery out for half an hour (from fully charged), no difference.
I'm going to try my known good Voda PAYG sim in it to see if that works (that will be tomorrow)

I can only suggest it isn't T-mobile locked in that case. Googling suggests that as the only cause :?

Do you get a message without a sim?

Can you access settings?

Ok well that proves its not stuck. Go to settings>security and see if sim lock is enabled.

Doesn't appear to be any security settings option, there's a 'restore default settings' option - worth a try?

Can't hurt.

Does it show the network name on start up?

Based on the message I'm not convinced it is t mobile.

Smash it. CPW don't lock phones normally.
