Tablet advice please

Tablet advice please

PostPosted by Cleoriff » Tue Apr 15, 2014 6:34 pm

I was thinking of getting a tablet, primarily for use in Spain. In the summer there will be 4 of us there.. each fighting for use of the netbook I have.

So a few things to consider.

1) It must be cheap....

2) We have NO wifi in my apartment..so can tablets be fitted with a dongle to get internet?

3) if so, I presume the set up will be the same (as for my netbook)..i.e. dongle and sim will have to be Spanish bought?

4) Two of my family play games on computer...so am I right in that no internet required with tablets..

I did see that cheap tablet on sale at Asda (£47)...but not sure if its any good ? (though it is damn cheap!)

Thanks all...

You need a 3G or 4G enabled tablet that you can use a sim card in or a wifi hotspot (MiFi) device that you can connect to.

NB...and if we are getting into the talk of tethering...then of course you have lost me!

As my original post shows I know NOTHING about tablets as no-one in the family has one?

No, a dongle plugs in and provides data via a solid connection to the device.
A MiFi is a dongle that provides a WiFi signal that you tether to (same as your home WiFi).

If you want to use a plug in dongle you need a tablet that supports USB OTG ;)

Well I think its going to be one of these then...Mifi and tethering doesn't cut it for me.

The device will be used in the apartment only which does not have wifi (and I can't be waving device aimlessly over the balcony in the hope i will find some stray

Wifi signal somewhere about) :lmao

It is too much of a risk that I buy something (however cheap) and the damn thing doesn't work when I get to Spain. That would be a disaster :idk
