Something not right with it - I'd just leave sammobile to download and use the ROM off there.....

I've managed to get it back to the original Nexus ROM.

Do you normally just flash over the top and then reset or would you factory reset before the odin flash?

It depends on what you're flashing to and if the file structure is the same or not.
Generally I reset before and after, but that's just me being over cautious, however, depending on ROM's you sometimes need to flash a downgrade file first.
Usually only required though if going back to say 4.1.2 after been on 4.4.2 for example.

Hmm,

So, seeing as I was going from 4.4.2 to O2 4.4.2 it shouldn't have been an issue.

I'm a touch wary of factory resetting before I try to flash the O2 firmware as if what happened last night happens again then I'll have no fallback.

Unless your around today to help my screw ups?

You shouldn't have a problem but no knowing what the ROM was you downloaded off XDA - That's why I always stick to Sammobile - I just wish they'd fix their server issues.
Factory reset won't wipe any fallback route though - Are you rooted?
If so you can go into your recovery and do a Nandroid backup which will take an image of the whole phone - Store it on SD card or copy it to PC then you can always just restore that if it all goes TU!!
But yes, I am around today but off to Germany later for 3 days....
