At least you recognise Swahili when you see it :there

Basically BT try to persuade new housing developers to install fibre into the houses.

So nearly all FTTP is currently only available on recently built (since approx 2010) housing estates.

Our place is circa 1969 :lol

Actually the last time our BB went down we had two BT vans and engineers here. One working in the house and contacting his mate who was at our green box up the road...

Cheers O2M2. makes a bit more sense now. So basically we have 'superfast' speeds up to the nearest green box, but the signal is then limited by the capabilities of standard BT phone cable on it's way into the property.

Sounds like coming straight off of an autobahn at 100mph straight onto a series of caddlegrids all the way to your house!

Not quite.....the relatively short length of copper does little to reduce the fibre speeds.

Bear in mind the distance you are from your local exchange, for normal ADSL that is all copper so that affects the end result.

Effectively vDSL is like having the local exchange where your green cabinet is :ooyh

the nearest 'green box' is about 3-4houses away, I presume that bodes well for potential speed?

The speed will depend whether you can get the basic Infinity or Infinity 2 which is the <80Mb product....being that close to the cabinet, throughput losses will be minimal.

It's the basic one. They were guestimating 33Mbs but we'll see!
