Excellent information Stu.
I have to say I am mightily impressed with the way Samsung have handled this issue. Sad that it happened but they are working like mad to rectify the problem.
Everyone will be getting a new Note. The article includes a lot of useful info re backing up device before exchange etc. and gives a very structured timetable.
The were quite clear on what the issue was ...
What exactly is the issue with my Galaxy Note7?

Based on our investigation, we learned that there was an issue with the battery cell. An overheating of the battery cell occurred when the anode-to-cathode came into contact which is a very rare manufacturing process error. Although this is isolated to a battery cell issue, we are prioritising the safety of our customers first, so we are voluntarily replacing Galaxy Note7 devices with a new one.

They have also supplied a dedicated phone number for Note 7 contact...

Customers with Galaxy Note7 service related questions can contact the Samsung customer service team on 0330 7261000 (Monday-Saturday, 9am to 6pm).
