Not really.
PTM, or Pulse-Time Modulation (also known as Pulse-Width Modulation) is used to encode a message into a pulsing signal.
Within the context of ADSL it is the method used to encode the ADSL signal and transfer it via the telephone copper to the ADSL Exchange.
Not to be confused with the slower 1980's standard ATM, or Asynchronous Transfer Mode.

Yes, it's how data is transferred over ADSL.
The old ATM used to be in chunks of 53 bytes and all 53 bytes had to be sent regardless of if they were used or not, so this made transfer speeds slower as there was wasted bandwidth. ATM also carried voice.
PTM is more modern and capable with unlimited block sizes so data transfer speeds can be optimised.
